MISSION: IVNA provides high quality, compassionate home health care, case management and advocacy for persons in need.

HISTORY: The idea of the visiting nurse began in 1900 with a small group of nurses who were concerned about the lack of access to health care for those not allowed in the traditional hospital setting because of their race or income. These nurses volunteered during their off-duty hours by providing home nursing care and instruction to the poor and sick citizens of Richmond. That tradition of compassionate, high quality care for the community continues today…

BUSINESS GOAL: IVNA assures the highest quality home care is delivered to more persons in need at a lower cost thereby providing conscientious stewardship of the community's charitable dollars.

SERVICES: Under the program goal of improving the lives of its charity care patients by helping them become healthier, more independent and care plan adherent as well as delaying and/or preventing emergent care and stays in care institutions allowing them to age safely at home, IVNA provides the following services to un- and under-insured persons in the City of Richmond and the immediately surrounding counties:

Charity Home Care
  • Home Based Skilled Care, including skilled nursing care; physical, rehab, speech and occupational therapies; infusion services and social work services to home-bound persons in need. These services are provided by IVNA staff and other accredited subcontractors.
  • MedBoxes, a service which fills a patient medication dispensing box on a regular basis enabling him or her to manage his or her own medication adherence and remain safely at home. This service is provided by IVNA staff, volunteers and contracted pharmacies.
  • IVNA Lifeline, a personal emergency response alarm which enables a home bound patient to contact emergency services at the push of a button which is worn as a bracelet or pendant.
  • Phone Friends who provide the home-bound, isolated patient with a reassuring phone call check-in on a regular basis. This service is provided by IVNA staff and volunteers.
  • Volunteer Support Services, recruitment, training and coordination services for persons interested in giving of their time and talent by supporting any of the services above.
Community Wellness:
  • Community Clinic and Outreach, including an intensive flu immunization outreach program, worksite health screening clinics, health education services and immunizations such as shingles, pneumonia, etc. Services are provided by IVNA staff.
